Down with Politics

Once (at least!) every four years, someone needs to say it. Here’s Maggie’s Farm catching my mood.

When average people are required to pay close attention [to] the government, because the government is the source of all succor or pain in their lives, the country is doomed. No well-adjusted person should be—or should be required to be—interested in politics very much.

Some of us can’t help it, of course, just as some of us can’t help being fascinated by stamp collecting, fly fishing, Star Trek, or analytic number theory. If you don’t share the particular obsession, though, obsessive types are best avoided.
