Drilling Moratorium Could Be Lifted Soon

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs is suggesting that the Obama administration’s moratorium on deep-water drilling could be lifted before its Nov. 30 expiration date:

Gibbs said there have been meetings and discussions in the last few days within the administration and he believes that the White House is “getting close to having in place something that will allow us to lift that moratorium.”

When asked if he thought a decision would come within the week Gibbs responded “I do, pretty soon.”

More here.

UPDATE: I’m now hearing that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will announce the lifting of the moratorium at 1pm today.
