The Republican senate candidate in Vermont who has had those inspired “Billy” ads:
Rich –
It was great talking with you last week.
As we discussed, despite the perception and conventional wisdom that Leahy is totally safe, don’t count me out. There is clearly something in the air here in Vermont. My campaign is attracting lots of support from Independents and disaffected Democrats who agree with me that our federal government is broken. Leahy is the ONLY democrat ever elected to the senate from Vermont and people here are starting to balk at the notion of him serving for 42 years. I have effectively been making the case that if you’ve been inside Washington since 1974 you are no longer part of the solution, you’re the problem. Just yesterday Leahy was forced to debate his Democratic primary challenger (who will run the general election as an Independent) on Vermont Public Radio. Headlines here say that for the first time “Leahy is on the defensive.” Needless to say, I can’t wait to debate him (I was on the varsity debate team at the University of Vermont).
There is no doubt in my mind that Leahy is beatable. All I need is a little national attention and the tide will start turning in VT the way it did for Brown in MA….
Thanks again,
