The Corner

An Easter Present

Don’t say I never did anything for you. Some years ago, I covered a recital by a soprano named Latonia Moore, of Houston. She sang a song by a Philadelphia man named James East: “He’s So Wonderful.” This was in the 2006-07 season (Google has told me). When I did my season-end review for The New Criterion, I singled out this song, and Miss Moore’s singing of it, as a special joy. The song includes one of the best rhymes ever: “I’ll trust him to the end. My Jesus, what a friend!”

I don’t have Latonia Moore in this song for you — but, fear not, I have Kisma Jordan, of Detroit. She sang it with orchestra, with a camera rolling. Feel free to skip the (lengthy) orchestral interlude (no offense to anybody). And, again, don’t say I never did anything for you.

Oh, the link. And happy Easter.
