John Fund had a great piece over the weekend on the disturbing tendency of politicians using earmarks to name things after themselves. (I’ve complained about this before.) I was especially very pleased to read that Fred Thompson asked Tennessee legislators not to name a highway after him. I’d say we need to shame the rest of these people into changing their behavior, but shamelessness is regrettably a prerequisite for public office.
