The Corner

Edward Said, Teacher

We recently went through a huge controversy over faculty bias at

Columbia University’s department of Middle East Studies. Some

claimed that the charges were either trumped up or isolated

incidents. Now it turns out that they were just the tip of the

iceberg. And there’s a remarkable twist. It isn’t just the

omnipresent followers of Edward Said who don’t know how to give a

fair hearing to both sides. Now we learn that Edward Said himself

apparently orchestrated and set the tone for the disastrously

politicized teaching atmosphere at Columbia. Details at Martin

Kramer’s Sandbox.
