Elitism vs. Populism

Paul Johnson, in one of his books (either Modern Times or History of the Jews) tried to float the word “cathedocracy,” meaning “rule by professors.”  The example he gave was, IMS, Portugal under Salazar.

It seems to me this is a handy coinage, but it doesn’t seem to have floated very well.  Google turned up ony 354 occurrences.
