It seems I only write to thank you for defending someone or something — and that is why I’m writing to you now. I have been feeling very…I don’t know the word…excluded, maybe…from NRO where I have felt like one of the family for a very long time. Lately, though (in the past couple of weeks) the shots at Huckabee have felt like broader swipes and I have felt their sting. I don’t think I’m overly sensitive — I hope I’m not.
I am not a Huckabee supporter. Out of the top five candidates, he is my fourth choice (he would be fifth, but I cannot vote for a pro-choice candidate for president). So it is not out of any sense of loyalty to Huckabee that I have felt slighted. I am, however, an evangelical Christian. The Corner lately has not seemed a friendly place for folks like me. I’m used to attacks from the likes of Stuttaford and Derb, but the Schiffren post today (to which you linked) made me feel for the first time ever that perhaps I need to find another conservative outlet for my information and entertainment.
Yesterday K-Lo and Rich seemed to pile on Huckabee with a vengeance that went beyond political differences. I emailed them both (they ignored me as they always do). [They’re very busy and get, I imagine, hundreds of emails a day–don’t take it personally. — RP] I know “politics ain’t beanbag” but his policies are so bad that I can’t understand why they just don’t focus on THOSE. And if I have to read Stuttaford complaining ONE MORE TIME about not being able to read Huckabee’s sermons, I think I’m going to have a conniption.
Yes, a conniption — I live in the Deep South, too. So there you go.
I’m available if The Corner needs an evangelical Christian poster! And I’m a night owl — up, typically, until 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning, so I’d give other night-owl readers a reason to stop by!!!
