House Foreign Affairs Committee ranking member Eliot Engel (D., N.Y.) made sure to toe the party line about who came up with the “red line” on Syria.
At today’s hearing, Engel explained that Iran was “watching how we respond to the Syrian regime’s crossing of the president’s red line,” then paused to add, “. . . and the world’s red line.”
Earlier today at a news conference in Sweden, President Obama brushed off claims that it he set the standard for military intervention if the Assad regime used chemical weapons. “I didn’t set a red line,” Obama said, “The world set a red line.”
