‘Evaluating the Police Shooting of Ashli Babbitt’

Geoffrey Alpert, Jeff Noble, and Seth Stoughton are the authors of Evaluating Police Uses of Force, an excellent guide to the topic that I reviewed last year in these pages. Now, over at Lawfare, they have a thorough breakdown of what we know about the Ashli Babbitt shooting — a difficult case that has played out, politically, the opposite way that most controversial police shootings do.

I highly recommend reading the whole thing. But for a taste, here’s the thrust: “Applying the typical legal framework, we have serious reservations about the propriety of the shooting. We also have some doubts about whether the typical legal framework is the right one to apply.”
