Exclusive: Lookout Mountain District Attorney Clay Fuller to Run for MTG’s Congressional Seat

Clayton Fuller, an Air National Guard officer and Republican district attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit in Walker County, Ga., will announce today a run for retiring Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s deep-red congressional seat in 2026, National Review has exclusively learned.

In a statement announcing his run, Fuller characterized himself as a Trump-aligned “America First prosecutor” whose military and legal experience make him well-suited to represent Greene’s Northwest Georgia seat. “I’m one of you—raised in the north Georgia mountains where too many front porches have empty chairs because of fentanyl flooding across a wide-open border,” Fuller, a lieutenant colonel and deputy staff judge advocate in the Air National Guard, said in a statement to NR announcing his run. “As a military veteran and a prosecutor, I’ve worn the uniform of this country and I’ve stood in courtrooms right here putting violent criminals and drug traffickers behind bars, fighting every single day for the safety of our families and our communities.”

Fuller’s announcement heats up an already crowded GOP race to succeed Greene. Following her messy break with President Donald Trump over government files related to the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the formerly MAGA-aligned Greene announced in November that she would resign from Congress effective January 5, setting up a special election for her seat. The bombastic congresswoman has spent recent months viscerally criticizing the president on foreign policy matters and health care, prompting Trump to repeatedly denounce and mock her in a string of social media posts.

Also running in the GOP primary for her congressional seat are state Senator Colton Moore, 14th congressional district GOP chairman Jim Tully, businessman Jeff Criswell, Marine Corps veteran Christian Hurd, and entrepreneur Star Black, among other Republican candidates.
