Excuses

I’m getting a lot of these:

I am an alcoholic (30-years-dry) and did things I will forever regret, but never once have I blamed my misdeeds on drinking.  And frankly, I am sick of people (i.e., Foley and countless others) who do.  As a tactic, it is an effort to — in one slick move — to avoid both responsibility and blame.  It is a disgraceful effort to shift the focus of attention away from the victim and back on “Poor Me.”  Alcoholism, suffering abuse as a child and/or poor toilet training neither mitigate nor excuse the wrongdoing.
