“An Englishman is never at home, except when he’s abroad,” goes the old saying. Almost one in ten British citizens now lives abroad. The London Daily Telegraph has a Speaker’s Corner, where they invited these expats to say what, if anything, would persuade them to return to the Ould Sod. The answers are interesting. Main reasons for NOT wanting to return: prices, taxes, Political Correctness, laxity in punishing crime, weather.
Britain used to be Top Dog. Everybody wanted to go and live there. Now the USA is Top Dog. Fifty years from now, will people be posting these sorts of remarks, explaining why they would never even think of returning to America? Perhaps.
