Ezra Klein vs. Paul Ryan

Representative Ryan (R., Wisc.) says that Democrats are underestimating Obamacare’s cost. Klein says he’s mostly wrong. Klein concedes that Medicare savings are being “double counted” but says that this is s.o.p. for the federal government. Similar accounting procedures were used for the Iraq War and the Medicare prescription-drug benefit, both of which Ryan supported. That’s fine as far as it goes, but there’s a difference that seems to me big, which is that Obamacare is supposedly being paid for in large part by Medicare cuts. Nobody ever claimed that Medicare cuts were going to pay for the Iraq War.
