President Obama claimed in Tuesday’s State of the Union address that the U.S.’s agreement with Iran has “halted the progress of its nuclear program and reduced its stockpile of nuclear material.” As Fred Fleitz pointed out on NRO that night, this is pretty much flat-out false: Iran continues to increase its supply of low-level nuclear material, and has only decreased its very small amount of mid-level material — and the former can become the latter very quickly.
Glenn Kessler of the Washington Post, drawing in part on Fleitz’s work, basically agrees, dishing Obama one of his highest ratings for dishonesty. (Good thing this isn’t one of the potentially most consequential topics the president brought up in his speech or anything, with, say, existential consequences for a U.S. ally . . .)
Kessler’s verdict:
Does seem a tad presumptuous to have rendered that without checking with the State Department first, though.
