Fake Candidates

There have been more joke candidacies that I thought (and no, I don’t mean Brownback and Kucinich). Dizzy Gillespie “ran” for president in 1964, pledging to name Duke Ellington Secretary of State and to deport George Wallace to Vietnam. The Children’s Defense Fund has made up a “Susie Flynn for President” site to push for more socialism in health care (well, I consider it a joke, anyway). And who can forget:

As the PR guy who coordinated Morris the Cat’s campaign wrote me:

“He’s got the quiet demeanor of a Coolidge, the animal magnetism of a Kennedy and, in the spirit of another great American, he naps!” The latter reference to Reagan generated big laughs at the National Press Club where we launched the campaign.
