False Prophecies About Dobbs

When Dobbs came down, we were told that maternal mortality would increase and ob-gyns would run away from red states. Pro-abortion activists are still spreading these stories.

The pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute sent out a press release this morning correcting the record. It turns out that maternal mortality rates declined in 2024 according to the CDC. As you can see here in Figure 1, that rate spiked during Covid but has been declining since March 2022 — right before Dobbs.

As for the trend among new doctors, I’ll just quote the release:

Following residency Match Day, medical students filled 99.2% of OB-GYN residency spots in pro-life states — the exact same fill rate as pro-abortion states. In fact, more med students matched in Texas programs than California programs.

Nationwide trend: A 2025 JAMA study found 94.2% of OB-GYNs stayed in the same practice location when their state implemented pro-life protections, nearly the same as the 95.8% in pro-abortion states.

Remember, you read it here first — because you won’t read it anywhere else.
