Spring is about to expire, and so too will the National Review Spring Webathon, but not, I hope, before we reach our goal of $264,000. Yesterday we enjoyed a big surge of contributions (157 people hit the donate button), so we now stand at $242,000 in generous aid received. That means we are a mere $22,000 from the finish line.
Will you help us get there? Yours Truly has attempted to explain here why you should stand alongside NR, but an even better and more persuasive appeal was given by Rich Lowry.
A thought comes to mind this weekend: Did your dad introduce you to NR and thereby make a profound difference in your life — energizing you about the need to stand by and defend our liberties?! This is the experience of many NR readers and fans. If that is the case, with Father’s Day on Sunday, why not consider making a contribution in his honor.
Now as you know, many donors shared their thoughts along with their contributions. Here are a few examples that came to us yesterday — may they inspire you to help NR:
‐ Jacques may be like a lot of you. He sends $30 and explains: “Love NR. Have been meaning to make a donation for a while now and finally got around to doing it. Keep up the great work!” Will do mon frere.
‐ Donna, who tossed a big $250 into the collection plate, echoes that: “This is something I should have done long ago. I read National Review Online every day. The writing is always terrific and I particularly depend on Andy McCarthy for clarity on the legal issues confronting the Trump administration. Keep up the good fight.” We will keep up Donna because of good allies like you.
‐ Bobbie, who I love, sent, get this, $10,000. You read that right. I won’t say what she wrote in the comment section, because it is about me, and so kind, and I don’t want to come off as self-promoting. But you know, it is amazing that we have some friends like her, so genuinely generous in every way. Wow! We are blessed.
‐ Susan is an NR apostle (she sent $100): “Great work! Wish we could do more financially. Thank you that I may forward articles to others who are now reading NRO . . . perhaps even donating! At age 75, I really appreciate what you are doing.” Thanks so much dear.
‐ Jean Marie sends us $100 and admits to a strange Goldberg-inspired game she plays with her mate: “Can’t live without Jonah! My husband and I share dramatic readings of his “news”letter when we commute together.” I am at a loss for words. Except: Thank you.
‐ And one more: Along with his $50 contribution, Michael explains what he’s doing with the rest of his paycheck: “I would give more in the fight against George Soros and his minions, but I need protection from his black-masked thugs. I am going down to the local hardware store to make a self-defense purchase. After today’s attack, you never know.” No, you nevughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
I’ll repeat what I said a few days ago: Over the years, thousands have shown NRO their support, making it feasible for NRO to continue its 24/7 wonderment.
