Feel the Sincerity

Remember McCain’s immortal words to Vanity Fair: “I’ll build the goddamned fence if they want it.”

McCain’s contempt for the very idea of enforcement — and for those citizens concerned about America’s sovereignty — came through loud and clear. Harry Reid’s comments Sunday on This Week sent the same signal:

STEPHANOPOULOS: But what does that mean exactly? Senator Rubio says that there has to be operational control of the borders. Can you meet that standard?

REID: I don’t know what that means, and I don’t think he does, either. The fact is, we have some metrics we’re talking about, some numbers, and we can do that. But this legislation is going to pass. If people are looking for excuses not to vote for it . . .

Does that sound like Reid is interested in genuine enforcement measures that will minimize future illegal immigration to avoid having another amnesty debate a decade from now? Or does it sound like he’ll just stick “some metrics” and “some numbers” in the bill to give open-borders Republicans political cover to vote for it, regardless of whether the metrics actually mean anything?

On Judge Barrett, Let’s Tell the Truth

Once when I was a kid, my dad held up three fingers and asked, “Does this two look like a three?” Little did I know that this attempted sleight of hand would become a regular feature of the process for appointing federal judges. Watch for it in the days ahead as the Senate considers President Donald Trump’s ... Read More
