The president will sign the Secure Fence Act. There is a delay over what kind of signing ceremony to have, with some disagreement between House and Senate and some in WH arguing against one. I have noticed that a recent line of attack by some liberal pundits against the authorization for 700 miles of fencing at the southern border is that it’s the latest example of GOP hypocrisy because there is no funding to build such a structure. Not true. The FY 2007 Homeland Security Appropriations bill has $1.2 billion for “border fencing, vehicle barriers, technologies and infrastructure.” In addition, the Iraq Supplemental bill has $708 million to pay for National Guard troops at the border, who are already busily fence-building, in addition to $1.2. billion for more border agents, additional dentention beds, etc.
