Brown’s Finest

You may have met Chris Robotham and Marie Willersrud. They are students at Brown University. I interviewed them for my piece “Underground at Brown: A secret forum in which people can talk.” That piece was in a recent issue of NR, and there was an expanded version on the Web, here.

Chris founded a secret Facebook group whose purpose is simply this: to allow students to engage in free and open discussion, if they want to. Why does there need to be a secret group for this? Because of the atmosphere at Brown, which is illiberal, like the atmosphere on all too many campuses. Marie is another member of the group (and an old friend of mine from her hometown, Oslo).

Anyway, I thought you might like to hear from Chris and Marie directly. I’ve done a podcast with them. They are my guests on Q&A, here. I consider them, and their confreres, the pride of Brown University. Really, the administration and faculty, as well as their fellow students, should be very proud of them. In a better world, they would be. Maybe some of them are anyway.
