The Corner

FiveThirtyEight.com

The FiveThirtyEight.com website is a very useful compendium of recent election polls and analyses. The electoral vote projections are of most interest, since they tend to support Hillary Clinton’s claim that she is the more electable — or the electable — Democrat. Most striking are the states that she can win fairly easily that Obama has no chance of carrying, which include Florida, Missouri, Arkansas, and West Virginia (49 electoral votes total); versus the states he can win but she apparently can’t, including Wisconsin, Iowa, and Colorado (26 electoral votes). The McCain map against Obama is the classic GOP formula since Reagan — solid south and most of the plains and mountain states, with Ohio the key battleground. Against Clinton the map is more complicated and difficult for McCain. This is a site worth following, especially for its level of detail.
