Former White House spokesman Ari Fleischer has just testified that he told two journalists, David Gregory of NBC News, and John Dickerson, then of Time, that former ambassador Joseph Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA and played a role in sending him on a mission to Niger. It happened on a presidential trip to Africa in July, 2003, Fleischer said. “I recall saying to them [Gregory and Dickerson], ‘If you want to know who sent Ambassador Wilson to Niger, it was his wife,’” Fleischer testified. “She works there.” Fleischer testified that when he spoke to Gregory and Dickerson, he had no idea that Valerie Plame Wilson’s job status was classified. He testified that former Cheney chief of staff Lewis Libby had told him about Mrs. Wilson just before Fleischer left on the Africa trip.
