As I write in this column, I think Harold Ford has run a tremendous campaign. But it may be that Corker is in recovery mode. He’s going more aggressively after Ford’s record and could still very well win. But either way it’s going to be an extremely close race, and so is Virginia. That those two races, which a few months ago most people were assuming would be safely Republican and a fire-wall against losing the majority, are down-to-wire is a sign of the sort of perilous year it is for Republicans.
