Former NLRB Chair Rips ‘Partisan’ Board

Former National Labor Relations Board chairman Peter Schaumber does not think too highly of the board’s action under President Obama. When the NLRB was created, Schaumber explains, its purpose was to “impartially balance the legitimate interests of organized labor and management.” Under the current administration, however, the board has undergone an “extreme politicization” and is “pursuing an aggressive agenda to promote the interests of organized labor without regard to employee rights and legitimate management interests.”

It’s no wonder the president was reluctant to embrace the NLRB’s pending challenge against airplane manufacturer Boeing. However, he did say: “What I think defies common sense would be a notion that we would be shutting down a plant or laying off workers because labor and management can’t come to a sensible agreement.”

Which would be a fair enough statement, I suppose, if it in any way described the details of the Boeing case. Unfortunately, it couldn’t be farther from the truth.
