From a reader in response to my column on Fred Thompson:
Hi,
New Hampshire Republican here.
Let me set you straight about a few things in NH. “New Hampshire
Republicans” consist of a good many more people than show up for photo ops
with the candidates, and pissing them off is far from a disqualifying
factor. If Fred Thompson can keep his message right on the things that
matter, he’ll have my vote, and I don’t know a single person who votes for
one candidate over another – just because some Mucky Muck in Manchester says
he likes ‘em.
This whole “New Hampshire” drama is drummed up into a frenzy because
of the media’s attention to it, and surprisingly enough, they all glom onto
one idiot who shows up to every debate, and then act as if he speaks for all
Republicans in the state. Trust me, he doesn’t. I vote in every election,
and I have never once asked anyone else who they were voting for, as a
determiner of who I would vote for. I doubt anyone in this state does.
We take our politics seriously, and that means more seriously than
listening to what someone else says is the guy we should vote for. We listen
to the candidates, and vote our conscience – regardless of if we’ve met all
of them personally. I met Romney a few weeks ago, and my dog licked him,
too, but that hardly means he can count on my vote. Just how shallow would
I have to be, if it did?
I’m not a committed Thompson fan – yet. You were right to assume we
all hoped he would be the saviour from the RINO’s we otherwise have to
choose from. I’m still hoping that.
SO FAR – Fred has not said anything to shatter those hopes. I’ll be
watching closely, and before the January Primaries, I will have enough
information to decide if he is, or is not, the white Knight we’ve all been
waiting to save us. Too soon to tell, so don’t write him off yet. Time will
tell, but trust me – NO ONE at the NRC in NH will be telling me who to vote
for, or against, and I don’t care if they’re all pissed off, or not. I am
not alone.
Thanks, and keep an open mind,
