Former Washington Post editor Len Downie argues that “journalism is at risk and American society must act to preserve it.” One would have thought that society could best demonstrate the value it places on journalism by buying the papers, but Downie argues that the liberal establishment (government, universities, and nonprofit foundations) must step in instead.
