Freedom’s Challenge

Many moons ago, I was a wide-eyed intern at The New Republic, working in the salt mines of political journalism for Fred Barnes. One of my fellow interns was Gary Bass. Whereas I remained an ink-stained wretch, he went on to a Princeton professorship. Gary and his new book on the history of humanitarian foreign policy are the subject of my latest Between the Covers podcast interview.

John J. Miller, the national correspondent for National Review and host of its Great Books podcast, is the director of the Dow Journalism Program at Hillsdale College. He is the author of A Gift of Freedom: How the John M. Olin Foundation Changed America.
