The Corner

French Fried

This year marks the 225th anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown–the anniversary of its conclusion was actually last Thursday. A website that monitors the American media for “French bashing” has issued a challenge:

Dear Jay Leno, Bill O’Reilly, Jonah Goldberg, John J. Miller, Richard Chesnoff, Glenn Beck and many others,

Some time this week, you might want to pay some respect to the following French soldiers who gave their lives for the FREEDOM of AMERICA

Thank you

– Marc St Aubin du Cormier –

A worthy appeal. I surrender to it. Here’s the list.

Meanwhile, here’s a short excerpt from “Revolting Ally,” the second chapter of Our Oldest Enemy: A History of America’s Disastrous Relationship with France.

John J. Miller, the national correspondent for National Review and host of its Great Books podcast, is the director of the Dow Journalism Program at Hillsdale College. He is the author of A Gift of Freedom: How the John M. Olin Foundation Changed America.
