Friend of Foley, Sotloff: ‘Never Heard Anything as Ridiculous’ as Obama’s Plan to Make ISIS ‘Manageable’

Documentarian and former prisoner of war in Libya Matthew VanDyke, a friend to slain American journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff, called on the Obama administration to take more action in light of the Islamic State’s threats to kill more hostages.

“I’ve never heard anything as ridiculous as ‘managing the problem’ of ISIS,” VanDyke said on Fox & Friends on Wednesday. “If the president calls it a ‘a cancer,’ do you ‘manage’ cancer or do you try to eliminate cancer from the body?”

Even if the rest of the international community is hesitant to take on these “utopian extremist barbarians,” the United States government has a duty to protect its own citizens, he added.

“There are citizens being executed on video and we need to take care of it, regardless of any coalition,” he said. “We don’t have time — every couple weeks if another prisoner is executed, we don’t have that kind of time.”

VanDyke argued that the U.S. government should negotiate to free hostages, but then immediately eliminate the Islamic State. If the government isn’t willing to negotiate, then the president should focus on rescue missions, as well as continue to launch airstrikes.
