Frist Timing

Watching the Sunday shows brought home to me with extra force how selfish Frist’s timing was. It was the best week the GOP has had legislatively in a long, long time (putting aside that a lot of the legislation was lame and profligate). One would think the Senate majority leader wouldn’t want to step on some Sunday-show bragging about how (supposedly) vital the GOP governing majority is. Instead, Frist’s speech dominated the political chat, so the conversation was about Republican divisions and how tenuous Bush’s position on stem cells is. And Frist styles himself a leader of the party?
