I couldn’t help but think of Mr. Derbyshire during Futurama last night. The main robot, Bender, asks a similarly built robot, Flexo, what his serial number is. After Flexo responds, Bender replies, “No way,” and rattles of his number, at which point both robots start laughing. When the human doesn’t get it, Bender retorts, in an eyes-rolling, you’re so stupid tone, “Duh, we’re both expressible as the sum of two cubes.” Did Derb moonlight as a consultant to the show?
