A Gaffe Right Out of the Gate

Ed Rollins, who recently joined Michele Bachmann’s proto-campaign, is a very smart guy who sometimes makes damaging gaffes. Politico reports that he is contrasting his candidate with Sarah Palin:

Bachmann will “be so much more substantive. People are going to say, ‘I gotta make a choice and go with the intelligent woman who’s every bit as attractive.’”

As the article suggests, the swipe at Palin will irk many conservative voters. And why mention his candidate’s looks? Is he suggesting that Republicans would be less likely to support her if she were less attractive? Such talk is not a compliment either to Bachmann or to the GOP primary electorate.
