Roberts Gates “disagreed deeply” with Joe Biden on foreign policy over the course of the decades they both served in public service, but when Gates was in the Obama administration, he took particular issue with Biden’s attempts to influence the president’s thoughts on foreign policy.

After listing several of Biden’s missteps since joining the Senate in the 1970s, Gates emphasized that he is not alone in his opinion of the vice president. “Frankly, I don’t think any of that is a secret — I don’t think it’s new news to anyone who follows these things closely,” he said.
