A reader rightly notes in response to my earlier post that the Oxford English Dictionary gets it wrong:
The OED: gaydar
• noun informal a homosexual person’s ability to identify another person as homosexual by interpreting subtle signals conveyed by their appearance, interests, etc.
Not to quibble, but as someone who in college was the token straight guy in an otherwise gay wait staff in a really nice restaurant in Atlanta back in the 80’s, OED got it wrong. It’s ANY person’s ability to identify a person as being homosexual.
That’s why I hear that pinging sound in the back of my head every time I watch Canadian men’s figure skating on the Ocho!
