There is SO a large thing in Alabama named after George Wallace, a reader
from Mobile tells me: “I don’t know your route through the state when you
visited, but you may have passed through the George Wallace tunnel when you
visited the USS Alabama. The tunnel is on Interstate 10, runs under the
Mobile river, and connects Mobile to the Mobile River Delta. If you’re
heading east from Mobile, one of the first sites you see after exiting the
tunnel is the USS Alabama.”
