On ABC’s This Week, George Will questioned the math behind the dire warnings on the sequester: “The actual trillion dollar number itself is wrong. . . the actual spending cut will be $44 billion in this fiscal year. That’s less than Congress shoveled at the door this year ostensibly to help the victims of super storm Sandy.” He pointed out that the president has described the cuts as “severe, brutal, eviscerating, meat-cleaver approaches” but it is only “half of what we spent bailing out AIG. The domestic agencies that would on average receive a 5 percent cut” have been “receiving 7 percent increases.” According to Will, the president’s view must be then that the “government right now is the minimal that stands between us and misery and chaos.”
