Is the Georgia Senate Race Headed for a Run-off?

A new poll less than three weeks from Election Day suggests that the Senate race in Georgia, between Democrat Michelle Nunn and Republican David Perdue, will go to a January runoff.

A WRBL News 3/Ledger-Enquirer/PMB survey finds Nunn and Perdue statistically tied: Nunn gets 45.7 percent of likely voters to Perdue’s 44.7 percent, with a 2.5 percent margin of error. Meanwhile, Libertarian candidate Amanda Swafford garnered 6 percent.

In Georgia, unless a candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote in the general election in November, the race heads to a runoff on January 6, 2015. Neither candidate has received at least half the vote since an early September poll, and consistently are within the margin of error, although Perdue often holds the lead.
