Bloomberg reports that it is increasingly unlikely that the Obama administration will meet its reckless, self-imposed deadline to close the detention camp at Guantanamo Bay.
Meantime, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R., Okla.) has introduced a bill that would permanently bar the settlement of the alien enemy combatants in the United States. Supporters are urged to sign a petition to stop the terrorist detainees from being transferred to the United States.
Finally, back to the Bloomberg report for a moment. It includes the following: “Negotiations this year already have resulted in detainees being transferred to Saudi Arabia, Chad, Iraq, Bermuda, the U.K. and France, Ben LaBolt, a White House spokesman, said in an e-mail.”
Let’s leave aside that there have been all sorts of (entirely predictable) problems with the Saudi “rehabilitation program” — some of whose graduates are known to have returned to the jihad. One of the detainees who was transferred to the U.K. — where he is living free and on public assistance – is Binyam Mohammed, an Ethiopian al-Qaeda member who was to be the accomplice of “Dirty Bomber” Jose Padilla in a post-9/11 second-wave of mass-murder attacks in American cities.
I don’t know if I’d be bragging about that transfer if I were an Obama spokesman. Are these people so delusional about Gitmo that they think it’s better to have Binyam Mohammed roaming free among other jihadists than under lock-and-key?
