I would love to read a Bill Buckley column about Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical. Alas, I went for the next best thing. I grabbed one of Father Joseph Ratzinger’s former students, an editor of the encyclical, and a moral theologian who has been hanging around Anthropic circles of late. Watch or listen to my discussion with Father Joseph Fessio, Mark Brumley, and Charlie Camosy here:
The topics we discussed include the magisterial approach to AI and why it matters, just how big a threat AI may or may not be, what Mark was doing that was more important this weekend, Father Fessio’s arguably slightly less important AI project, and more.
If you’d like more similar conversations or have requests, say so in the comments here or on YouTube.
You can buy the Ignatius Press edition of the encyclical at the Ignatius Press website, or support a local Catholic bookstore (some still exist and will continue to, with our help).
P.S. I wrote my immediate reaction here yesterday morning. (I’ll have more after enjoying the frenzied commentary out there.)
