ABC reports that Omar al-Farouq, a high-ranking al Qaeda member considered among bin Laden’s top lieutenants in Southeast Asia, has escaped from U.S. custody in Afghanistan. He had been captured in 2002. Farouq and three others fled in July from a prison in Bagram, where they were being held — rather than being transferred to the detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a halal meal Gulag maintained by the United States in gross violation of international law.
Remarkably, given that there is absolutely, positively, cross-my-heart, really, really no connection between al Qaeda and Iraq, it turns out that al-Farouq just happens to be yet another Iraqi who somehow managed to join the terror network in the 1990s. Speculation is thus rampant that he has returned to home to join the jihad – which, of course, would never have happened but for the American invasion and removal of a Saddam Hussein, which has imperiled our national security and made us less safe.
