Gohmert: Chamber ‘Cut Off Their Nose to Spite Their Face’

Louie Gohmert, the Texas tea-party congressman once dubbed the Third Hottest Conservative Supermen in the Political World, is starting a super PAC to defend House conservatives against attacks from “mainstream Republican PACs,” according to Patrick Howley of the Daily Caller.

He spoke with NRO about the endeavor today, saying he expects to face down national establishment groups like the Chamber of Commerce. Though he agrees with the influential group on many issues, he says, its stance on immigration reform rankles him.

“They’ve decided to cut off their nose to spite their face,” he tells NRO. “So we need to raise money to help defend against any attacks that the chamber might launch against people who are true conservatives.”

I asked Senator Ted Cruz about his fellow Texan’s efforts yesterday. He said he hadn’t heard about the PAC, but thinks very highly of Gohmert.

“I’m a big fan of Louie Gohmert’s,” he says. “He is a principled conservative who speaks his mind and is not afraid to dive into the fray.”

Cruz added that during his 20-hour speech about Obamacare last fall, he read from Gohmert’s copy of the Affordable Care Act, which was “underlined and dog-eared from the time he has spent analyzing that monstrosity of a law.”
