It got overlooked last week, for reasons I simply cannot fathom, but the passage on Election Day of Seattle¹s Initiative 91 was unadulterated good news for taxpayers there and might start a welcome trend elsewhere. I-91 restricts government subsidies for professional sports by applying a strict fiscal test to any proposed arenas or stadiums. It passed by a 3-to-1 margin. Seattle’s local NBA and hockey teams are now threatening to move to Oklahoma City. Shakedown artists do these things. The best response is just to say, “see ya.”
