The Good News Is I Just Saved a Bunch on My Car Insurance

D. C. Douglas, the voice-over guy for all those GEICO commercials — no, not the Cockney lizard, the “15 minutes could save you 15 percent or more” guy — has been fired after it came out that he left an harassing voicemail message with the small-government group FreedomWorks.

On the message, Douglas sarcastically asks “the percentage of people that are mentally retarded who are working for FreedomWorks and who are following it.”

I like Greg’s line over at the media blog: “I guess Geico figured that the voice-over job was so easy, even a caveman could do it.”

UPDATE: Nice line from a reader e-mail:

Maybe D.C. Douglas can now get a job doing voice-overs for Progressive insurance.

UPDATE II: I incorrectly identified Douglas as the “15 minutes could save you” guy. He is not that guy, I’ve learned, but another GEICO voice-over actor who worked on a few different campaigns none of which I can positively identify at this point.
