Last week, I wrote a Corner post about President Trump sharing an image of patches, reportedly from the New Jersey Department of Corrections and the PBA Local 106 in Ocean County, N.J., featuring Trump-style hair atop the distinctive skull symbol from Marvel Comics’ the Punisher.
Dave Marchetti, the president of the Point Pleasant Beach Policemen’s Benevolent Association, writes in to say that his organization has never created a patch, or garment, with any such depictions of a Punisher skull.
“Our members do not hold the values that are explained in your article and have a full grasp and understanding of the Punisher character, what he represents and what our role as law enforcement officers in society is,” Marchetti writes. He adds that he does not know where those patches came from, or “whether any member thought it was a cool idea or if it was done in jest. I also do not know if any member of PBA Local 105 or the NJ Department of Corrections actually had the patches made, or if this was done by someone outside of those organizations.”
I’m glad to hear that. We could avoid these sorts of situations if the president of the United States would stop reposting every image that comes across his Truth Social feed that catches his eye without any regard for whether they are accurate or not. Then again, he thought the AI image of himself in robes was a painting of “me as the doctor and it had to do with Red Cross as a Red Cross worker there, which we support.”
