GOP Prepares to Fight for Senate Majority in December

There’s a distinct possibility that the battle for the Senate could drag on into December, even January. That’ll happen if neither party wins a 50-seat majority in November, and the races in either Louisiana or Georgia (or both), where a candidate must win 50 percent of the vote, are thrown into runoffs. Politico reports that the GOP is preparing to fight into December:

Top Republican strategists are quietly preparing to pour money into Louisiana after November, even reserving hotel rooms and millions of dollars’ worth of ad time. If Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu doesn’t win more than half the vote in the general election, she would very likely be forced into a one-on-one runoff with Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy.

The same is happening in Georgia, where a runoff wouldn’t take place until January 6. Read the whole thing here.
