Harry Reid’s plan to tack comprehensive immigration reform on to the House’s emergency border funding bill is part of a strategy to help Democrats in the midterms, says one Republican representative.

”Harry wants to kill our bill, because politically that works for him in this election cycle,” Representative Kristi Noem (R., S.D.) told Fox News on Wednesday. “We’re hopeful that we can get the bill passed, which looks very optimistic.”

Reid’s effort may be part of an effort to dissuade House Republicans from supporting the bill, which would allow Democrats to push the narrative that Republicans are failing to address the border crisis.

Noem warned that the current border crisis poses a national-security threat, and Reid’s decision to stall the process will make matters worse.

“The fact that Harry does that is dangerous,” she said. “We should not let that keep us off of our legislative agenda.”
