GOP Rep: House Leaders Won’t Go to Conference on Gang of Eight Bill

House leadership has made clear that immigration reform remains a priority, but according to one GOP congressman, the House Republicans will not enter a conference committee on the Senate-passed Gang of Eight bill, something many conservatives have sought to avoid.

“If immigration reform moves, it’s going to move piecemeal,” said Representative Matt Salmon (R., Ariz.), recounting a recent conversation he had with House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio). “It will go over one bill at a time, and if there is any kind of a conference it will be on specific bills that we send over. It will not be on the Gang of Eight bill.”
