Kansas senator Pat Roberts criticized the White House’s decision to cancel tours as a result of the sequester, calling it “the politics of perception” on CNN yesterday. Roberts said that senators from both parties were disappointed with the administration’s decision because “it lowers the debate.” He suggested that the White House should have pulled back on Department of Agriculture conferences and the president’s golf games before opting to cancel tours for students and visitors. “We need serious debate on debt and the crisis,” Roberts told Wolf Blitzer. “This is not a good example. It’s silly.” Patrick Brennan noted yesterday on the Corner that the White House is only saving $18,000 a week with this decision.
