Aides on Capitol Hill caution not to make too much of Boehner’s comments saying he’d vote just for extending the middle-class tax cuts, if it comes to that. It’s very unlikely to come to that. The Senate will probably go first, and the odds of Reid getting through only a middle-class extension are very slim because: 1) Republicans will offer an amendment to extend all the tax cuts; 2) he’s lost five of his own Democrats. The whole matter is still most likely to be kicked into the lame-duck session. In the meantime, these aides maintain, Boehner sought to undercut the White House talking point that Republicans are holding a middle-class extension hostage.
